A Wine Tasting Dinner

Episode 04

Hosted by Isabelle Jardin
(@isabellejardinn) in NYC.

Isabelle's dinner starts with three wines: a Sauvignon Blanc, a Pinot Noir, and a Cab Sauv, each poured in whisper-thin crystal with a dish to match. Casual, collaborative, intuitive—that's her hosting style, and it's already on the table before a single guest arrives.

“I love to offer my guests something as soon as they walk in, whether that’s a drink option, a comfortable seat, a snack, a tour of the space. I think giving people something to hold, do, or interact with can ease any initial socializing jitters.”

The Process

Watch her wine tasting come together, pour by pour.

When it comes to wine, Isabelle trusts her taste—there’s no label-chasing or price-tag pressure required.

“A lot of people think expensive wines taste better, but personally I’ve had so many $10-20 bottles that are just as good if not better than the really expensive stuff. Drink what you like!”

Isabelle's Wine Pairings

Isabelle's Wine Pairings

Three wines, three dishes, and the thinking behind each pour.

Cabernet Sauvignon

01 Cabernet Sauvignon — Seared Steak over Garlicky Tomatoes

"Cabernet is a full-bodied, somewhat rich wine, which to me personally pairs so well with the combination of high acid (tomatoes) and red meats. The richness and depth of the wine naturally brings out the richness in the meat and is mellowed out by the sweet and acidic tomatoes."

02 Pinot Noir — Creamy & Smoky Tuna Dip with Trout Roe & Fresh Herbs

"This is one that might sound like an unlikely pairing. However, it works quite beautifully. Pinot has a much lighter mouthfeel than most reds and is often complemented well by a rich and fatty fish like tuna."

03 Sauvignon Blanc — Labneh & Crudité with Scallion Chili Oil

"This is, to me, a classic light and crisp wine that goes so well with other light bites. The slightly spicy and creamy dip pairs so well with an acidic, citrusy wine."

Sommelier Set

Sommelier Set

“A really good set of wine glasses is such a gamechanger, and something I’ve never had until now. Especially when serving different wines to my guests, the glassware matters so much more than you’d think.”
